Greetings from India
August 9, 2008
In Habakkuk 1:5 the Lord says, “Look to the nations and watch – Be utterly astounded!
For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were
told you.” This word of God certainly seems to be true for the nation of India
in these days and for me especially in the work at Rahab’s Rope. I was in a meeting
yesterday and given the information that 6 of every 10 Hindu’s you meet on the street
are interested in hearing you tell them about Jesus and that 1 of those 10 will
accept Christ. That is truly amazing! The transformation I am watching take place
in the women of Rahab’s Rope is just as amazing. Words cannot explain what your
eyes see and your heart experiences.
I hope this finds you all doing well. I departed Atlanta June 30th with two
other ladies, Mackey Hooper and Katie Macias. Our travel went smoothly with no problems.
The women at Rahab’s Rope are doing very well. The quality of their workmanship
continues to improve as well as the atmosphere of unity at the center. Their growth
spiritually is evident in all aspects of their lives. Mackey will be here most of
the time for the next two years teaching English and Math. The classes have already
begun and it is amazing to watch the girl’s as they are extremely eager to learn,
honestly it is like watching a child open presents at Christmas. Mackey is teaching,
Katie and I are assisting by working with the girls individually on their worksheets.
We also have Michal, a young lady from CA helping us as well as another American
that lives here. We are all so impressed with how well the girls are learning.
Thanks to those that have donated to our Scholarship Fund. Our two girls that
started Beauty School in May, Susan and Mary Stella, are doing very well. They are
absolutely living a dream come true! Some of the skills they have learned thus far
are manicure, pedicure and hot oil massage. Next week we will get to experience
their new learned skills first hand, should prove to be quiet interesting. I can’t
wait!
Thursday we were invited to a function at the Bangalore Baptist Hospital honoring
Dr. Rebekah Naylor for her 35 years of service to the hospital and the work of our
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It was also the release of a book written about her
life of service to the people of India and her involvement in the development of
the hospital and nursing school. The book is a must read as it inspiration of “what
one life intertwined with serving God and love can do”. The book is “Rebekah Ann
Naylor, M.D. Missionary Surgeon in Changing Times” by Camille Lee Hornbeck.
Last night we attended another function for Dr. Naylor at the Campus Crusade
compound, this one hosted by Dr. David Dass. This was a very exciting evening for
me as the girls from Rahab’s Rope performed a song and dance for the guest. The
song is “Pray for India”. The girls were dressed in costume from 17 different people
groups in India. They were beautiful and did a wonderful job, I couldn’t have been
more proud. They have come such a long way; they were smiling and so confident in
themselves as they performed. Their transformation from sad, withdrawn and hopeless
eyes to bright, big, beautiful eyes and smiles; from slouched and down-trodden shoulders
to holding their heads upright is as the scripture says, “utterly astounding”.
Please continue to pray for us. If you would like to be a part of this incredible
journey we are on please visit our website to see how you can become involved.
Blessings,
